Process of installing hollowcore and Stairs

• Crane is set up in position as instructed by person who carried out job measurement. The crane, trucks and trailers need a stable base to work on so the site needs to be suitably hardcored and free of obstructions on the ground and overhead
• For your standard house there is usually 2 - 4 trailer loads of hollowcore slabs
• The first trailer of slabs is brought into position next to the crane by a truck unit
• We use a grab with the same shape as the profile on the hollowcore slabs. A member of our installation team attaches the grab on the crane to the slab they want to install
• Another member of the installation team has the floor layout, and using the slab numbers printed on the drawing and the slab itself, he directs the crane driver until the slab is in position
• The last 2 steps are repeated until all hollowcore slabs are in place
• There are hooks in each flight of stairs and a member of our installation team attaches chains on the crane to the hooks
• Using the hollowcore and stairs drawings, the team directs the crane driver until stairs is in position
• The crane will probably have to be moved around the building in order to install all of the slabs. This is another reason why it is important that the site is adequately hardcored and clear of obstructions
• A standard house can usually be completed in a few hours and the client can begin grouting the slabs immediately if they wish
• The client can then begin block laying the next floor but they must remember to prop the slabs with planks and props. This is because blocks are stacked up in piles when they are being laid creating a point load too high for the slabs 

Process of Designing Hollowcore and Stairs

• Client/potential customer sends us in the plans in Autocad format
• Using our Floorcad program we can design the hollowcore/stairs layout and insert it into the plans
• When the job in question has progressed to where all the blockwork (internal and external walls) are up three rows, we call to site to carry out an exact measurement, as plans are rarely accurate enough to manufacture to
• After measurement we send the revised layout with exact measurements to the clients engineer for approval
• Floorcad allows us to test the strength of the concrete floor slabs using the loadings that are supplied by the clients engineer
• Once we’ve got approval the hollowcore/stairs can be put into production
• After the curing period, hollowcore/stairs are ready for installation
• Each floor slab is marked with the job number and a unique slab number for loading and installation
